briefing Red Flag (Northern edition )

Lore:
Blue forces are expanding their territory and are about to occupy a previously-owned Red territory. Unfortunately not all Red forces could evacuate in time. Blue are tasked to eliminate remaining opposition, but without major casualties, or the whole attack would not be worth it. A small squad of Red fighters are tasked to defend the remaining Red forces for as long as possible.

BLUE side goal: destroy as many ground targets as possible
BLUE fighters goal: ensure that strikers are able to attack the AOs and make back alive
BLUE strikers goal: coordinate with GCI and fighters and attack ground targets at AO and survive
RED side goal: defend ground targets and slow down blue side progress by as much as possible

Mission failure or winning is asserted at the end of the game sessions.
-Conditions necessary for BLUE to win (both required):
-Amount of ground targets to be destroyed = amount of striker pilots, multiplied by 4;
-Minimum 2/3 of striker pilots should make it home alive by the end of mandatory;
-Conditions necessary for RED to win (at least one required):
-Minimum 1/3 of striker casualties;
-Failure of BLUE side to destroy ground targets above minimum threshold;

OPERATION: WINCHESTER

— THE TET OFFENSIVE —

PHASE 1 – “DANCING WITH DEATH”

After the NORTH VIETNAMESE FORCES asked their ally RUSSIA to supply them with advanced WAR systems, the US led coalition forces are attacking the North Vietnamese capital HANOI (Kutaisi) and all its AFB’s and heavy DEFENSE systems.
Now that the NVA has advanced Russian SAM systems, BLUE forces want to prevent the massive expansion of those systems, before it’s too late.
But another important region at this point is DA NANG AFB (Sochi), which was recently owned by US BLUE forces, but it has nearly been overrun by NVA troops. Well before the NVA reached DA NANG AFB, BLUE forces had withdrawn most material. But the US wants it back, and BLUE forces are pressing for DA NANG.

### OBJECTIVES ###

DA NANG AFB (SOCHI) has to be captured! Enemy forces are still near the air base VERY close to the West and North, after they have withdrawn when we attacked the area.
DONG HOI AFB (GUDAUTA) is a NVA AFB, but since the fighting broke out in the region, we have withdrawn our material. So if BLUE forces capture DA NANG, they will most likely continue towards DONG HOI AFB and capture it.
PREVENT THIS AT ALL COSTS!!
DEFEND OUR UNDERGROUND BUNKERS at ‘HILL 937’ (HAMBURGER HILL), in case the enemy manages to find the entrance (just 4KM North of FJ02).
PREVENT THE ENEMY FROM FINDING IT!!

### SITUATION ###

– The enemy RED forces, have at least 3 SAM SITES near their active airbases. Take out the SAM’s!
– It seems like the enemy forces are using LAOS and parts of CAMBODIA and THAILAND, to supply their forces in SOUTH VIETNAM. It has been dubbed the ‘HO CHI MINH TRAIL’. We do not know exactly where it is, but we detected movement in the dense forests along the VIETNAM/LOAS border. Find the supply routes and prevent the enemy from reinforcing their troops.
– THAILAND is an ally and its airspace can be used, but some parts of THAILAND,CAMBODIA and LAOS are considered hostile areas where communists and guerilla forces are active.

### OBJECTIVES ###

DA NANG AFB (SOCHI) has to be recaptured! Enemy forces have not yet captured the air base, but they are VERY close to the East.
DONG HOI AFB (GUDAUTA) is an NVA AFB, but since the fighting broke out in the region, NVA forces have withdrawn their material. So after capturing DA NANG, continue towards DONG HOI AFB and capture it.
FIND AND DESTROY ‘HILL 937’ (HAMBURGER HILL), which is an eleborate enemy undergound bunker system, just NORTH of FJ02, it is of utmost importance to find and destroy everything the enemy throws at us there.
Around 4 KM North of FJ02 (in a 400m radius around that location), you should get some opposition there, then lure out all the NVA troops from the underground. WILD WEASEL around that position, low and slow, watch for enemy fire from a very much obscured bunker, then ANNIHILATE THAT POSITION!

OP: CARBON KING v3

OPERATION CARBON KING v3
Mission design by: Goldshe & Dutch Baron

SITUATION:

On December 29, 1030D, multiple USA Reaper drones orbiting over no-man’s land between Zugdidi and Sukhumi discovered a sizeable Russian forward recon unit (codenamed Romeo) across the river approximately 5 kilometers North of Dzhvari and another, considerably larger and more powerful unit (codenamed Juliet) between Ochamchira and Gali.

The US, threatened by this presence, immediately responded by deploying a unit of armor and infantry seven kilometers South of Dzhvari, and launching drone strikes upon Romeo.

The Russians reacted by mobilizing, moving further up North, and taking a defensive position in and around a small town ten kilometers north of Dzhvari, deploying anti-air defenses. This resulted in a stalemate.

Two hours later, 1200D, the Reaper drones orbiting the area monitored extensive Russian movements. Romeo dispatched some of it’s armor, infantry and AAA down South, resulting in fortification of the bridge connecting both Russian units. Juliet advanced further East and took position between Gali and Dzhvari.

Romeo does not exhibit any signs of retreat, Juliet is rather setting up an attempt of reuniting with Romeo and taking Dzhvari and therefore gaining significant power and presence across the river, this resulting in an opportunity of taking and fortifying Gudauta and Sukhumi airports, as well the land before the river.

The BLUFOR have a full F-15 Squadron in Batumi, full A-10 squadron in Kobuleti and a Ukranian presence with multiple Su-27, MiG-29, Su-25, Ka-50 in Kutaisi. The BLUFOR also control Senaki-Kolkhi airport with no aircraft present, if need be to land, refuel and repair.

The OPFOR have a sizeable fighter presence in Sochi-Adler and Nalchik. CV Admiral Kuznetsov has taken position 60 kilometers off the coast of Sukhumi, allowing Russians to deploy naval missions.

Romeo: Russian forward recon unit consisting of infantry, multiple BTR-80s, T-80s, ZU-23s, Shilkas and a single Tunguska. Expect the Tunguska to be deeper North, in a clearing close to forest.
Note: The aerial reconnaissance drones confirmed all Shilkas being dispatched to protect the bridge.

Juliet: Large Russian unit of infantry, armor, artillery and air defense. At least one SA-15 Tor and multiple Tunguskas confirmed. Other SAMs and Shilkas sighted. Exercise caution when approaching. SA-15 Tor is located on high ground. Remember, it is a low to medium altitude SAM system.

Mission deployment time: December 29, 1335D.
BLUFOR Bullseye: city of Zugdidi.
OPFOR Bullseye: position of Romeo.

OPERATION RICOCHET

<<<<<<<<<<< OPERATION RICOCHET >>>>>>>>>>>>

A few days ago Russia launched an attack against Georgia with numerous airstrikes and ground operations north of Tblisi. In that time they have captured Zhinvali, Pasanauri, Dusheti – about 60km of Georgian terrain has been taken so far. They are mobilizing additional forces to capture Misaktsieli and eventually proceed towards the capital. Intelligence estimates that without intervention, the Russians could capture Tblisi in as little as 3 days at this pace. US led coalition has been deployed to Tblisi to respond to this emergency.

The 7th Guards Air Assault Division and 12th Guards Tank Battalion are spearheading this assault.

The 12th Guards Tank Battalion have captured Dusheti and are reinforcing their defenses. Tank Platoons have begun heading south to attack Misaktsieli and destroy the EWR stationed south of it. The assault depends on the main road leading south to Misaktsieli, which has 2 bridges that serve as chokepoints for the assault. Command has determined the best course of action at this time is to destroy these two bridges to halt the assault.

Elements of the 538th Guards Air Defense Missile Regiment have been deployed and have successfully setup an ad-hoc KUB system that poses a significant threat for any air assets stationed near Tblisi.

The 7th Guards Air Assault Division have deployed the 108th Guards Air Assault Regiment to attack Tianeti and the surrounding region. Elements of the 162nd Recon Battalion and 185th Military Aviation Squadron have been deployed to support the assault. Georgian 3rd Rifle Company stationed at Tianeti is doing it’s best to defend the area, but they are being quickly overrun by the lightning fast assault of the Russian VDV. 1st Platoon of 3rd Rifle Company is surrounded and requires immediate extraction.

The 3rd Air Defense Missile Regiment has deployed S-300 sites North of the border to deter any aerial assaults on Russian territory.

The 1st Aerospace Defense Battalion has been deployed to Nalchik and Beslan and are dispatching fighters to respond to our deployment.

The 3rd Air Defense Missile Regiment has deployed S-300 sites North of the border to deter any aerial assaults on Russian territory.

The 1st Aerospace Defense Battalion has been deployed to Nalchik and Beslan and are dispatching fighters to respond to our deployment.

The 12th Guards Tank Battalion consists of 40-80 Tanks, AAA, and Mechanized Air Defense systems.

The 108th Guards Air Assault Regiment consists of 2 VDV Infantry Companies and 1 Artillery Company.

The 162nd Recon Battalion consists of 30-45 Mechanized Armor and Mechanized Air Defense forces.

The 185th Military Aviation Squadron consists of 2-4 Mi-24 helicopters.

The 1st Aerospace Defense Battalion consists of 18-24 fighters of Mig-31, Su-27, Mig-29S, and Su-24M forces.

OPERATION CORNERED

<<<<<<<<<< OPERATION “CORNERED” >>>>>>>>>>

Poor intel, “trigger happy” political decision to launch campaign against well prepared REDFOR and too small contingent approved by Senate has resulted in major defeats for BLUEFOR across the conflict area. Ground campaign that had primary objective to gain foothold and secure KRYMSK failed as well. Due to this failure, BLUEFOR was not able to airlift more troops into conflict area.

Decision was made to extract out troops and bring them to safety. Transport ships are inbound, but spearhead of REDFOR attack is advancing fast on BLUEFOR positions and final stand-off is inevitable.

FIGHTERS:

WP1 = BULLS EYE

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

10 Minutes after mission start an IL78 transport aircraft is flying from Tblisi-Lochini AFB to NM19 and after that to MN45 to drop troops there. The FIGHTERS need to protect and escort the IL78 to make sure they drop the troops there.

DROP TROOPS SUCCESS = 300 points

FRIENDLY TRANSPORT RTB SUCCESS = 100 points

Also, the enemy will most likely send a transport airplane to drop enemy troops far beyond the FLOT, locate it and destroy it.

TAKE OUT ENEMY TRANSPORT SUCCESS = 100 points

2: Keep air superiority over the southern region.

3: Escort strikers trying to take out hostile ground forces

STRIKERS/SEAD:

WP1 = BULLS EYE

First SEAD should take out the SAM site @ MN27, so the IL78 can drop the troops in that area safely.

This has to be done within 25 minutes from mission start, otherwise the IL78 will be taken out!

1: Take out the enemy troops near the river South of the village TERK at MN75, this is the main priority for strikers!

We have troops just South of that position, who need to advance to BESLAN AFB to take control. After that support our ground forces by providing CAS near BESLAN AFB.

2: SEAD/DEAD has te be done first to take out SAM threats, after that all BLUE ground forces should be taken out.

3: Runway strikes are needed at Nalchik and Beslan AFB.

Intel reports suggest enemy ground forces can be found near the following grids:
